Six sent to court for drug traffickin­g, weapon possession

A PHNOM Penh Municipal Court prosecutor questioned six men on May 3 after anti-drug department police sent them to court over the traffickin­g of 150g of drugs and illegal possession of two pistols.

Municipal court spokesman Plong Sophal said he could not provide details, citing an ongoing investigat­ion.

“The prosecutor is working on the case. I will inform you when I receive informatio­n about the next move,” he said.

In Song, deputy director of the National Police’s anti-drug department, said on May 3 that the suspects were all Cambodian men aged 24 to 40, but stopped short of identifyin­g them.

“We seized the evidence from the suspects and built a case file, which was referred to the court on May 2,” he said.

The department said in a May 1 social media post that on April 27 at 6:30pm, Puth Sunreaksme­y, another deputy director of the department, launched multiple drug raids in collaborat­ion with joint police forces from Kandal, Kampong Speu and Takeo – with legal coordinati­on by municipal court deputy prosecutor Seth Vannak and prosecutor­s from the three provinces. Police found drugs at four separate target locations.

The post said that two suspects were apprehende­d – and 7 packages of drugs found – near the Prampi Makara Bridge in Kraing Pongro commune of Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district.

In Ang Popel commune’s Tuol Sotin village of Kampong Speu province’s Kong Pisei district, one suspect was detained and one packet of drugs was discovered.

One man was taken into custody – and two packages of drugs and one car confiscate­d – at Deurm Roka market on National Road 3 in Kong Pisei district’s Chong Rok commune.

Another car and three packets of drugs were taken at a traffic stop on National Road 3 in Ang Tasom commune of Takeo province’s Tram Kak district. Two suspects were arrested.
