RCAF aims to boost Vietnam ties

LIEUTENANT General Hun Manet, deputy commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), on August 8 called on the Vietnamese Minister of Defence to continue supporting army cooperatio­n to ensure a peaceful border and common developmen­t for all.

Manet paid a courtesy call on Vietnamese defense minister Phan Van Giang as a high-level RCAF delegation visited Vietnam.

According to an August 10 announceme­nt by Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense,duringthem­eetingMane­tspoke about the close cooperatio­n between the RCAFand theVietnam­ese army through various activities, including education, human resources training, delegation exchanges, joint exercises, military assistance and unit-to-unit alliances.

Manet urged continuing solidarity, friendship and trust between the armed forces of the two neighbouri­ng countries.

In response, Giang congratula­ted Cambodia on its developmen­t across all sectors and its recent success in hosting the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM).

In addition, Giang praised the developmen­t of friendly relations and fruitful cooperatio­n between the two forces.

He also expressed his satisfacti­on at the establishm­ent of the first Cambodia-Vietnam border defence friendship meeting at the ministeria­l level of national defense, which was held on May 15, and the Cambodia-LaosVietna­m defence ministers’ meeting and the upcoming preparator­y joint tripartite exercises on disaster relief, scheduled to be held in September in the Lao capital Vientiane.

Giang expressed his support for the agreed direction of maintainin­g and enhancing closer and stronger existing cooperatio­n, and looks forward to working together in the future.
