THE Ministry of Interior is prepared to introduce new mechanisms which will support the implementation of the newest edition of the “safe village-commune” policy.
TheministryheldaDecember 21 meeting to share the details of a prakas on the organisation and functioning of a secretariat that would support the policy.
The meeting was presided over by Sak Setha, the ministry’s permanent secretary of state.
Setha said the latest edition of the safe village-commune policy, which now covers all ministries and institutions, was introduced at the national level in 2021.
“This new mechanism is not limited to the purview of the interior ministry – security and public order – but on the work of all ministries and institutions, whether they work in public services, the environment, sanitation, disaster management or healthcare,” he added.
“The ministry is required to establish a secretariat that will support the implementation of the policy. The secretariat will coordinate work with all relevant institutions and government working groups,” he continued.
The secretariat will also report on the progress and results of the implementation.
He added that based on this idea, the ministry had prepared a July 22 prakas on the organisation and functioning of the secretariat.
“We plan to share the prakas in the near future with the relevant ministries and institutions, capital and provincial administrations as well as development
partners so that they will be ware of its functions,” he continued.
The safe village-commune policy first came into effect in 2010 and was signed by interior minister Sar Kheng.
The policy aims to eliminate theft, drug offences, human trafficking, gambling and all forms of violence.
At the national level, the policy also focuses on public service provision, the environment, and sanitation.
