OKAYAMA University, one of Japan’s top public universities, is holding an online “Study in Japan 2023” fair for Cambodians who wish to pursue their tertiary education.

The virtual fair is taking place for three weeks from January 5-28 for students from ASEAN member states.

The fair is part of the “Study in Japan Global Network Project in ASEAN”, run by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

“The fair has been held six times, two of which were held online. In Cambodia and Laos the fair has been held once online. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the fair will be held online for all 10 ASEAN countries,” read a January 20 press release.

The purpose of the fair is to provide ASEAN nationals with the necessary and latest information to encourage them to study in Japan. It also provides ASEAN people with career information after graduation from universities in Japan.

“At the fair, we will introduce information about career opportunities for studying in Japan and participating institutions and schools on the special website,” it added.

It said 53 educational institutions and schools from all over Japan will provide online consultation, introduce scholarship information and other helpful tips for those who wish to study in Japan.

The fair is held to coincide with the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan.

The Study in Japan for ASEAN Phnom Penh office was officially opened at the Cambodian-Japan Cooperation Centre (CJCC), located within the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) on June 6 last year.

The office has a mission to organise special Study in Japan seminars in Cambodia as hybrid face-to-face and online events.

The Okayama University has been tasked with implementing the project by the Japanese education ministry since 2019. The project aims to increase the number of ASEAN students studying in Japan by 1.5 times over a period of five years.
