Ministry announces high school examination dates

- Sok Raksa

THE Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has set November 6 for this year’s high school examinations. It advised school principals and heads of educational departments to begin preparations, so exams will go smoothly.

In an April 11 letter, minister Hang Chuon Naron said careful preparations are required to ensure that the principles of “justice, transparency and acceptable results” would apply to the process.

The letter read that exam applications will be received by schools during the month of May.

“The principals of each school should establish an academic discipline board to assess the exams and prepare lists of candidates,” added the minister.

All examination tests will be chosen, prepared and managed by the education ministry.

The ministry added that the tests will be marked on November

11-15 in Phnom Penh, with the results being verified from November 16-26. The education departments in Phnom Penh and neighbouring Kandal province will display the final results on November 28, with the remainder of the country following them on November 29.

“Heads of the national units and education departments will submit lists of invigilators to the education minister for final approval,” it added.

In February, Prime Minister Hun Sen met with the more than 1,000 students who attained A grades in their exams. He said he was pleased with the previous decade of educational reform, as it had encouraged students to study hard and had ended a culture of entitlement.

The 2021-2022 high school exams, held on December 5, saw 90,950 passes, or about 72.33 per cent of the 128,135 candidates from across the country.
