Say Samal: Internet in schools for P Sihanouk

MINISTER of Environment Say Samal, head of the Government Working Group for Preah Sihanouk province unveiled a plan to connect the Internet to Preah Sihanouk’s schools to assist teachers and students with their studies.

During a meeting with more than 2,000 teachers, education staff and pedagogical students on April 22, Samal announced that the government considers the education sector a priority, and will support improvements to education in Preah Sihanouk.

The working group announced on April 23 that it will connect the Internet in schools to facilitate the research of teachers and students.

“Initially, we will connect universities, followed by high schools, secondary schools, and then elementary schools. This is essential to improve instruction and training in life skills,” it said.

According to Samal, this training will give the students the opportunity to earn higher incomes when they join the Kingdom’s workforce.

“High schools should pay close attention to cultivating soft skills in students,” he said. “Through the working group’s efforts to strengthen the education sector in the province, the government is demonstrating its support for vocational training and life skills.”

Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sport director Ouch Sophea thanked Samal for his close attention to the field of education, especially with regard to his plans to improve connectivity.

“In addition to helping to improve digital infrastructure, the working group is also organising study tours for teachers at various historical sites in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap,” she said.

“On behalf of the education department, I remain committed to doing my best to achieve results that are in line with national education indicators and directions, in order to fulfil the Kingdom’s human resource potential,” she concluded.
