- Long Kimmarita

THE finals of the Outstanding National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Member for 2023 will be held on May 1, in the Peace Hall of the NSSF headquarters in Phnom Penh.

Heng Sophannarith, deputy director-general of the NSSF, told The Post on April 30 that 42 candidates had been selected from footwear factories from across the country and are ready to compete at the finals, which will be held on the 137th anniversary of International Labour Day.

He said the candidates have been training to improve their knowledge of the NSSF and its activities.

“In accordance with our statute, only footwear factory workers were eligible to compete this year. We selected 21 male and 21 female semifinalists,” he added.

Sophannarith called on the public to watch the live broadcast of the event, to support the capable candidates.

He explained that the competition was established to focus on the value of workers in the Kingdom’s textile and garment industries.

Textile, Apparel, Footwear and Travel Goods Association in Cambodia (TAFTAC) deputy secretary-general Kaing Monika said the event is an opportunity for capable workers to present their work, while the programme also serves to educate the public.

“It’s a happy opportunity for workers to show off their skills, intelligence and beauty, especially on the occasion of the 137th anniversary of International Labour Day. We will help spread the word to get as many participants as possible,” he added.

According to NSSF, the contest is co-organised by TAFTAC, the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) and several trade unions.
