Scholarship victors told to sharpen digital skills
MINISTER of Post and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth urged the recipients of digital scholarships to commit to their studies, as they will soon be at the vanguard of the Kingdom’s digital transformation.
He met with the 314 students who were awarded the Techo Digital Talent Scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year on May 3. The students are studying at five of the capital’s most prestigious higher educational institutions – the Cambodian Academy of Digital Technology, the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) and Paragon International
University.
Vandeth said that the scholarships they have received are important for the country’s development and would boost national economic growth in the digital age.
“These scholarships will build their digital technology skills and enable them to participate in the development of Cambodia’s digital economy and government,” he said.
He advised the students to focus on their studies and do more research on digital technology.
“The more you learn, and the more practical experience you gain, the more likely you are to become leaders in this field,” he added.
Kin Phea, director of the International Relations Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, acknowledged the importance of the digital sector, and urged youths to pursue studies in this field.
“This is an industry that is sure to provide many excellent job opportunities to those that are qualified,” he said.
“Human resource development is the most important step towards the socio-economic development of Cambodia. It requires very specific digital skills,” he said.
According to the telecoms ministry, the outstanding students earned the scholarships through national and regional competitions, including the River Monitoring Technology competition of the Mekong River Commission (MRC), SmartStart 2023 and Robocon 2022.
The ministry expressed its hopes that the students will go on to make strong contributions to the Kingdom’s digital revolution.
