- Sok Raksa

MINISTER of Interior Sar Kheng has called on the Police Academy of Cambodia to continue training law enforcement officers in accordance with the set quality standards to improve professionalism in maintaining peace, national security and public order.

Sar Kheng made the call on May 10 while presiding over the closing ceremony of the third generation level 1 and level 2 police leadership course, of which 379 participants successfully passed out, 34 of them women.

“The academy must continue to train the National Police in accordance with the set quality standards. All successful trainees must take the knowledge and professional skills gained from this training and work effectively when serving the people, communities and wider society.

“Training national police officials is necessary work that must be carried out on an ongoing basis so National Police forces have sufficient knowledge based on theories linked to actual practice and develop full professional competence,” he said.

The launch of the course was testament to the effectiveness of national police reforms and the implementation of the human resource development plan of the interior ministry in accordance with government policy, he added.

“Strengthening capacity contributes to maintaining peace, social stability, national security and public order, which are the foundations of national development in all areas.

“We are now at the stage of building the capacity of our national police to be on a level with other countries in the region, as well as internationally,” the Minister of Interior said.

Police Academy of Cambodia president Seng Phally said the academy had already trained three generations of police leaders, with the third group beginning on January 17 this year.

A total of 682 participants, of whom 55 were women, had graduated from the academy’s three generations.

“The training is organised in full accordance with the set quality standards to improve professionalism and ethics in the National Police.

“It comes in response to the government’s reform policy for the security forces and the human resource development plan of the interior ministry,” Phally said.

The Police Academy of Cambodia is the only public educational institution for the study of police science, as well as human resource development in the field of security and public order.

Working within national and international frameworks, it looks to improve standards and build trust.

The prestigious academy provides high quality training for National Police and prison officials, and instils professional ethics, as well as conducts scientific research in security and public order.

It also seeks to exchange knowledge, experience, professionalism, innovation and technology with local and international cooperation partners, and build patriotism in serving the community while preserving national culture and identity.
