Planning underway for 6th National TVET Day

- Long Kimmarita

CAMBODIA will organise the 6th National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day in mid-June, under the theme “TVET provides skills and decent jobs” in line with the government’s stated goal of ensuring that every citizen has at least one life skill.

Thorng Samon, deputy director-general of the ministry’s Department of Technical Vocational Education and Training Management, told The Post on May 16 that the two-day event will be held on June 15-16.

Samon said the event, which will be held at Koh Pich, aims to promote the benefits of

TVET to students and their families, as well as private companies and domestic and international organisations.

“The labour ministry will organise an exhibition of the work of TVET students. The event will be opened by Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife,” he added.

The government named June 15 as National TVET Day in 2018. The day celebrates the development of a skilled and efficient workforce that can respond to the needs of the domestic and international labour market.

A circular signed by the prime minister in April instructed the labour ministry and its partners, as well as the other authorities at all levels and the private sector, to produce videos and documents on the benefits of TVET, for circulation throughout the Kingdom.

The circular also instructed them to mark the occasion with appropriate signage.

“All provincial administrations shall celebrate the 6th national TVET day with the participation of the labour and vocational training departments and educational institutions in their own jurisdiction. At the same time, they should encourage the participation of the private sector, including companies, factories, and other large enterprises,” it said.
