New state-of-the-art hospital set to open in August: Chanthol
MINISTER of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol announced that Techo Sen Koh Thom Hospital in Kandal province will be officially opened in early August. A ministry working group and experts from Calmette Hospital in Phnom Penh are speeding up preparations for the installation of medical equipment at the facility.
Chanthol shared the scheduled opening date on May 16, as he signed a memorandum (MoU) with foreign philanthropists on the supply of medical equipment to the hospital.
“After signing the MoU, a representative of the philanthropists shared the current situation of the hospital. Construction has been completed, and they are just waiting for equipment. We expect to be able to officially celebrate the inauguration in early August,” he said.
The minister noted that the hospital will be one of the most modern in Cambodia.
The hospital will be equipped with a Hospital Information
System (HIS) for managing medical equipment, medicines and patient data, which was developed by the public works ministry’s General Department of Technology and Public Relations.
According to the ministry, the project is aimed at improving healthcare services for people by offering primary care and emergency services.
The hospital was built with the contributions of donors, in collaboration with Calmette Hospital, at a cost of about $10 million. Construction began on January 7 last year, on a 1.47ha site on National Road 21. The facility covers 13,000sqm and will contain 150 beds.
Prime Minister Hun Sen said recently that the hospital will play an important role in improving access to healthcare not only for the people of Koh Thom, Sa’ang and Ponhea Leu districts in Kandal, but also for Prey Kabbas district in Takeo province. At present, residents have to travel to Phnom Penh or other provincial hospitals to obtain treatment.
