Cambodia-Sino DNA training; investigation skills fortified

-

THE Cambodian National Police and China’s Ministry of Public Security recently conducted joint training courses on DNA sample search, collection, packaging, storage and transportation to combat crime. The workshop aimed to enhance the former’s skills in investigating, analysing fingerprints and identifying suspects accurately and fairly.

Overseen by Cambodian deputy National Police chief Moung Sothea and Li Ying, vice-president of the First Research Institute of China’s public security ministry, the November 30 training received positive feedback. Leaders from both sides commended the effective collaboration between Cambodia’s Technical and Scientific Police Department and officials from the Cambodian-Chinese Law Enforcement Coordinating Office of the Chinese embassy in Phnom Penh in combating various crimes.

Sothea also stated his gratitude for the Centre for Security Cooperation and Law Enforcement for its technical support, enhancing the nation’s capacity to effectively investigate criminal cases and gather evidence.

“This training course imparts substantial knowledge to us as law enforcers and evidence providers, both before the law and in court,” he said.

He urged attendees to exercise effort to fully grasp and utilise the new skills explained by the trainers, saying it is essential to share experiences and pose questions related to their work, using them as valuable information in future practical applications.

He added that the collaboration between the scientific police department and the law enforcement coordinating office has been consistently supportive. Currently, the department benefits from an additional three technical aids from their Chinese counterparts, including a DNA laboratory, scene detecting equipment and fingerprint identification devices.

He noted the significance of the aforementioned technical equipment, stressing their role in advancing the forensic capacity of Cambodian officers.

To enhance task performance, Sothea urged trainees to adhere strictly to their training. He also stated the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, upholding dignity and working as a united force to elevate the National Police’s honour.
