State media expanding, embraces modern tech

- Bor Pich Zelin

STATE media outlets are expanding their quality broadcasting scope and promoting professional standards in every format, aligning with the evolution of modern technology, according to Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra.

The minister made the remarks in celebrations of the 40th and 45th anniversaries of the revival of three state media institutions: Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP), National Television of Cambodia (TVK) and National Radio of Cambodia (RNK) on December 3.

In a December 4 press release from the ministry, Pheaktra expressed his commitment to preserving the achievements of past leaders and ministers and to creating new accomplishments for future generations.

He stated that for over four decades, the major state media groups have played a crucial role in providing information, knowledge and entertainment to people both in the country and around the world.

He noted that the ministry has broadened its information dissemination through websites and mobile apps.

Puy Kea, president of the Club of Cambodian Journalists (CCJ), stated on December 4 that despite the country’s transformation into a

democracy, the country has managed to maintain state media alongside welcoming private broadcasters.

He noted that private news platforms in the country are progressing more rapidly than state-run outlets.

“Private media is faster because they can generate revenue through advertising, offer higher salaries to employees and provide superior materials. However, the state media,

despite their limited revenue generation, possess significant human resources,” he stated.

Kea believes in the need to increase salaries and discipline within state institutions to ensure the harmonious development of both public and private press outlets.

Pheaktra also said that in the seventh mandate, the ministry envisions becoming a public affairs institution of the government.

“Therefore, all types of state media, particularly the AKP, TVK, RNK and the ministry’s website, have been expanding the scope of quality broadcasting and raising professional standards.

“This is achieved by adhering to a broadcasting approach that is new, real, fast and comprehensive. Such an approach contributes to the prevention and reduction of false information,” he explained.
