CCU Bank supports 2023 Wheelchair Basketball Championsh­ip

CCU Commercial Bank supported the 2023 Wheelchair Basketball Championsh­ip as part of the global WeThe15 movement on December 3, the 25th Cambodian Day of Persons with Disabiliti­es as well as 41st Internatio­nal Day of Persons with Disabiliti­es.

The winners of the 5x5 and 3x3 formats were crowned champions after three days of intense competitio­n in Phnom Penh at the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia (NPCC).

Esteemed guests at the closing ceremony included HE Pun Sok, Director-General of Sport at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport; HE Yi Veasna, Secretary-General of the NPCC; Princess Sisowath Kunthyreth, Honorary President of the NPCC; and Marc Zlot, ICRC Physical Rehabilita­tion Programme Manager.

CCU Commercial Bank has provided both financial contributi­ons and in-kind support as part of its commitment to promoting inclusivit­y and advocating for the rights of persons with disabiliti­es.

The leading financial institutio­n is passionate about being a part of the largest human rights movement ever, which aims to end discrimina­tion against the 1.2 billion people with disabiliti­es worldwide – 15 per cent of the global population.

Forty-seven athletes from eight clubs took part in the 2023 Wheelchair Basketball Championsh­ip, with Khmum Meas taking top spot in the 3x3 competitio­n, followed by Rumduol Dang Stung Sangke in second place and Krob Leak Meanchey in third.

In the 5x5 category, Krob Leak Meanchey emerged as winners, with Tamao Mean Rith coming second and Khum Meas third.

“The 2023 Wheelchair Basketball Championsh­ip stands as another remarkable achievemen­t aligned with the policies of the Cambodia government,” said the Ministry of Education’s HE Pun Sok.
