Job fair spurs factory hiring, targets 4,000

- Kim Yutharo

THE Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training’s National Employment Agency (NEA) on December 20 hosted a job fair at Wat Botum Wan, also known as Wat Trapeang Krouch, in Snam Krapoeu commune’s Trapeang Mean village in Kampong Speu province’s Kong Pisei district.

The initiative, in close collaboration with the Kampong Speu provincial administration, the Kampong Speu Department of Labour and Vocational Training and the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), presented 4,000 job opportunities for youth and job seekers.

Soy Srey Touch, a representative of event participating factory, Taral International Co., said that this marked the second occasion the company has recruited employees in collaboration with the NEA.

She mentioned that the factory was looking to hire around 4,000 additional workers, and that recruiting employees at job fairs facilitates the company in timely worker selection.

“A lot of people took part in this event, and I anticipate we’ll be able to hire many workers,” she said.

The NEA noted that, besides offering immediate job opportunities at the job fair, young individuals from disadvantaged and vulnerable families were able to sign up for vocational and technical training courses.

Kampong Speu provincial governor Vei Samnang said that the province is currently facing a shortage of available factory workers due to the recent increase in the number of factories to nearly 400.

“It would be beneficial if this job fair provides opportunities for people to find employment in the province, considering the shortage of available manpower,” he said.
