District governors told to step up public safety

- Chea Sokny

PHNOM Penh governor Khuong Sreng has urged the governors of the capital’s 14 districts to focus on bolstering security and safety measures for residents.

The call to action came during the swearing-in ceremony of Seng Kun as the new Meanchey district governor on December 25, succeeding Hem Darith, who now serves as deputy governor of Preah Sihanouk province.

Sreng noted the crucial role of collaboration between district governors, police and commune chiefs for effective governance. He said that success in serving the government and the people hinges on strong cooperation among these key players.

He advised that district governors put in effort both physically and mentally, drawing on their knowledge and abilities to lead their teams for improved outcomes.

“The new district governor, along with counterparts in other districts, must ensure the security and safety of local residents. This includes effectively implementing the ‘safe village-commune’ policy and addressing issues such as traffic violations and drug problems,” he said.

Sreng also encouraged district governors to collaborate across levels and institutions, focusing on serving the people. This includes actively engaging in resolving land disputes out of court, in alignment with the win-win policy.

Kun pledged to double his efforts in serving the people.

“As the governor of Meanchey district, I’m dedicated to serving the people day and night with sincerity. I am committed to safeguarding all government achievements, particularly ensuring the protection of the legitimate government, and won’t let anyone undermine peace in the motherland,” he said.
