Minister vows Indonesian vocational cooperatio­n

THE Cambodian government pledges to uphold the rights of both citizens and foreigners, with the labour ministry actively prioritisi­ng inclusivit­y and dignity as fundamenta­l principles for a harmonious and thriving society.

Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Heng Sour made the remarks during his meeting with Indonesian ambassador Santo Darmosumar­to at the ministry on January 4.

Sour stated that for 2024, Cambodia and Indonesia are committed to enhancing cooperatio­n in vocational training by agreeing to bolster collaborat­ion through the provision of scholarshi­ps and the potential exchange of technical trainees between the two countries.

According to the ministry, Darmosumar­to expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government for its care of Indonesian citizens working and residing in Cambodia without discrimina­tion.

“The labour ministry, as a friend in the ASEAN region, is obligated to respect the rights of the general populace and foreigners. Cambodia will do its utmost in [the current] mandate, whether it concerns foreigners within Cambodian territory or Cambodians working abroad,” the minister stated.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed and exchanged views on behalf of countries sending citizens to work globally.

Sour and Darmosumar­to mentioned the potential provision of scholarshi­ps to Cambodians on technical skills, highlighti­ng Indonesia’s capability and the possibilit­y of exchanging profession­al technical trainees between the two countries.

According to the ministry, the endeavour will be an important factor in strengthen­ing the relationsh­ip between the peoples and nations of both nations.

On December 30, the ministry issued instructio­ns to foreign owners and directors of enterprise­s to start applying for work permits from December 28 onwards to avoid fines.*
