Justice ministry ready to announce reforms
THE Ministry of Justice has announced it will hold a press conference to announce the details of two new reform campaigns.
The seventh-mandate government of Prime Minister Hun Manet has ordered the measures, which aim to strengthen and improve the quality and efficiency of the justice system.
According to a January 7 ministry notice, one of the campaigns will promote and expedite the resolution of cases in courts, while the other will investigate and resolve irregularities.
Justice minister Koeut Rith, as leader of the campaigns, will chair the conference, to be held on January 9 at the ministry’s Justice Hall.
According to the ministry, the initiative to expedite the resolution of cases aims to ensure judicial services are provided to the public more quickly.
There are three objectives to the other initiative, which will focus on possible irregularities.
First, it will establish complaint mechanisms, so all members of the public – especially the poor and vulnerable – will be able to share any concerns they may have.
Second, it will focus on resolving any irregularities it discovers, in order to ensure justice is served.
Finally, it will promote transparency, integrity and fairness in the judiciary.
When Manet outlined the Pentagon Strategy-Phase 1 upon the inauguration of his administration, he included many key priorities intended to develop the nation and strengthen the rule of law.
The government is focused on promoting and strengthening transparency and fairness in all aspects of public administration, with the strategic goal of building public trust and contributing to effective, sustainable, environmentally friendly socio-economic development
This also includes strengthening the rule of law and the judiciary, strengthening the fight against social injustice and strengthening public trust in the judiciary.
