A fun day at the farm, thanks

-

Once again as spring rolls around, many of the farmers in the Valley of Nova Scotia will be ready to work their fields, where much of the needed food will be grown to feed many local people as well as other countries abroad.

The question still remains, how much of this land will be approved by the Municipality of Kings for residential building lots? How much of this valuable land will fall in the hands of greedy developers and with the aid of the Municipality of Kings, become another subdivision?

It sickens me to think that the Municipality of Kings will go to any extreme to destroy our most valuable commodity, such as our fertile farmland, which cannot be replaced once it is destroyed. In my opinion, this is just another way for the municipality to broaden their tax base, just to raise more tax dollars to waste, not thinking of the serious consequences this will have on our future food supplies, for generations of people.

The existing farmers in the Valley are the best in their business at growing good quality food for our people to eat. We need more newer and younger farmers to come aboard, to carry on this trend as our older farmers retire. It is the responsibility of our local government to help make this happen.

We have seen enough of our tax dollars sent to other parts of the world to help someone else, it is time our tax dollars are spent here to help our own people in our own country. I am sick and tired of politicians making themselves and their friends rich on our tax dollars, while the taxpayers of this country are made to do without. After all, these tax dollars belong to the people of this country.

In saying all this, I would like to take the opportunity to thank Andrew Bishop and his family of Noggin’s Corner Farm in Greenwich, for opening up their farming operations to the general public throughout the summer months, so that everyone could enjoy a lot of summer fun. The fantastic corn maze, other farm events, farm animals, all the farm food prepared on the farm, gave hundreds of people a great deal of fun and education about how a farm operates. My son, my grandson and I spent most of the day there, having a barrel of fun. This is a real learning experience for both kids and adults, getting to know how and where our food comes from. Thank you Andrew, see you this summer, keep up the good work. Support our farmers, and stop building houses on our farmland! Gordon Arnold
