Studio Rally Weekend

Studio Rally Weekend is taking place July 30-31 this year.

Nine artists in the Valley are taking part and opening their studios.

Al Simm will have his Avon River Metalworks open in Falmouth, while painter Steven Rhude in Wolfville will be in his Grandview Drive studio.

The Steven Kennard Studio Gallery in Canning will feature his award winning turned and sculpted boxes made from exotic woods. Potter Jane Harrington, who lives near Canning, will have her work on display.

Farther west, the Windsong Studio and Gallery operated by Twila Robar-DeCoste in Aylesford will have a variety of her work on display. Blacksmith Alexa Jaffurs, who lives on a working farm in Mount Hanley, will also showcase work.

In the Annapolis Royal area, sculptor and blacksmith Brad Hall and painter Shela Breau will have their studios open to the public.

ARTsPLACE in Annapolis Royal has an exhibition entitled Sapsucker Sounds by Annie Dunning on display currently. It will run until Aug. 21.

Rion Microys and Stephanie Dean-Moore also have work in the gallery.

Hear the Best of Boxwood

Featuring artists from Boxwood’s world-renowned summer workshop and festival in Lunenburg, the Best of Boxwood tour features music that spans traditiona­l music of Ireland, Cape Breton, and America.

Led by the flute playing of director Chris Norman, the musicians of Boxwood are frequently praised for their energy, originalit­y and sheer mastery.

At the heart of the group is Norman, whose flute playing has contribute­d to many groups, as well as Hollywood soundtrack­s and seven solo recordings. Joining Norman are David Greenberg, Alison McGillivra­y, Magnus Holstrom and Yann Falquet.

The 2016 tour stops at St. John the Baptist Church in Poplar Grove Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. and Evergreen Theatre in Margaretsv­ille on Aug. 5 at 8 p.m.
