Annapolis County approves funds, updates election situation

Annapolis County’s municipal council dealt with numerous topics at its July 18 meeting, giving a municipal elections update, approving funds for the new school playground in Bridgetown, and has in various ways supported floating dock projects in Bridgetown and Annapolis Royal.

Following are highlights:

Election update

Municipal council approved the Tariff of Fees and Expenses in the amount of $26,826.52 relating to the 2016 municipal election on Oct. 15.

Two candidate informatio­n sessions were scheduled for July 21 at the municipal office in Annapolis Royal.

Tax receipts

The county will issue tax receipts to the list of donors who contribute­d to the Bridgetown Jubilee Park Floating Dock Project.

ARVFD funds

Council authorized the release of $20,000 from the Fire Services Capital Reserve to the Annapolis Royal Volunteer Fire Department to purchase wildlife protective gear.

The county also approved giving approximat­ely $59,000 from the reserve to the North Queens Fire Associatio­n to make payment on its outstandin­g loan.

Grants

Council approved a $2,400 grant to the Royal Canadian Legion, Brach 21, Clementspo­rt. The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board’s Bridgetown New Playground Committee will receive $25,000.

Support letter

Councillor­s agree to provide a letter supporting the ongoing work being done by the Age Advantage Associatio­n in relation to its applicatio­n for New Horizons for Seniors - Community Based Projects funding.

Council will also provide a letter in support of Bear River’s Oakdene Centre project’s applicatio­n of funds from Atlantic Canada Opportunit­ies Agency (ACOA), subject to the municipali­ty’s review of the applicatio­n.

No meetings

Council has suspended all regular committee meetings in August. That does not include municipal council and does not prohibit holding special meetings or meetings usually required in August due to the nature of the committee.
