Strong showing at Corn Boil Open

Athletics held its annual

Corn Boil Open on a hot

July 31.

The competitio­n featured four events: shot put, mixed hammer, discus and javelin, in several age categories.

Wohlmuth said ribbons were presented at the end of each event.

Local competitor­s claimed first-place finishers in several categories, with Kaitlyn Wohlmuth placing first in female javelin and Hantsport’s Grace Bird placing first in discus and second in shot put.

On the men’s side, Alex Rawding placed first in discus and David Bambrick placed first in shot put. Scott Logan placed second in discus and then went on to place third in shot put. Edmund Wohlmuth also placed third in shot put, while Isaac Fuller was third in javelin.

Wolfville’s Jane Warren, who placed second in the mixed hammer category, has been called unstoppabl­e when she participat­es in the masters shot put, discus, hammer and javelin. This month, she will be aiming at some new hardware when she attends national in Toronto and a second internatio­nal meet in Vancouver.

Warren captured gold and silver medals previously at the Canadian Masters indoor track and field championsh­ips. After her most recent birthday, she has moved up an age category to 60 and over.
