Wolfville pump house doubles as canvas
There’s a new splash of colour at Reservoir Park.
Painters of all ages and skill sets were invited to follow in the brush strokes of local artist Elizabeth Sircom as she painted the exterior walls of the old Reservoir Pump House Aug. 20.
Using Sircom’s design, participants were encouraged to grab a brush, pick a colour and paint away the afternoon.
“I like the community involvement and I liked that I could do a fun design,” said Sircom, who tends to focus on more serious pieces for commissioned paintings.
The free event, complete with games and a barbecue, was organized by Town of Wolfville employees Robyn Gallant and Andrew Webber. Their inspiration came from a fellow town employee who frequently visits the popular park with his son.
“It’s a family-friendly event where families are already gathering, so we might as well put them to work and make the park a little prettier, too,” said Gallant.
The event is part of the Town of Wolfville’s ongoing efforts to encourage art in public places, Webber said.
“We look at what’s a great natural tapestry and how we can add a bit of colour and culture to it,” he said.
“It doesn’t take much to organize and people love it.”
