At King’s Theatre

At the King’s Theatre, Annapolis Royal the Festival of Dance is set for August 25–28 with four performanc­es.

Alan Fraser will give a Brahms concert on the piano Aug. 29.

Ghost Walks at the Winery

Valley Ghost Walks have scheduled two compilatio­n ghost walks at Domain de Grand Pre Winery for Aug. 26 and Sept. 23.

They will feature ghosts from all four communitie­s haunted by the series. Local performers will contribute stories from Wolfville, Kentville, Windsor and Hall’s Harbour.

As part of the ‘Road to 2017’ celebratio­ns and the 100th anniversar­y of Women’s Right to Vote in Canada, this public talk will look at Canada’s ‘Famous Five’ suffragett­es and their beliefs and struggles. The speakers will explore their efforts and those of a number of extraordin­ary Acadian women, such as Jeanne Dugas, also designated as a person of national historic significan­ce this year.

Art in Windsor

Artists Elizabeth Sircom and David Howells are having a joint exhibit at the Thorsten Galley in Windsor from Aug. 27 – Sept. 18.

The exhibition is entitled EyeScape – Intimacy with Art in Two Mediums. The music starts at 6 p.m. at the Fox Mountain Camping Park near Aylesford.

The mix includes: Friday Night - Blou, Saturday Night- Matt Minglewood and performanc­es by Pm Blues Band, Stagecoach, Small Town Girl, Midtown Blues Band, MacFarlane’s Rant, Sister Lotus Belly Dancers and Onyx Dance Troupe.

Artisan market feature Greenwood’s art

United Tapestry’s Weekly Artihan Market featuring Debbie McMahon Greenwood on Saturday, Aug. 27. The market runs from 2 – 7 p.m.

She has returned home to Nova Scotia, where her family of origin set down roots over 50 years ago here in the valley. Deb and husband Tim Greenwood are making the North Mountain community of Harbourvil­le,their new home. Her experience as a technical illustrato­r provides a structural foundation to her current style, as she explores refracted and reflected light, as seen in this series of paintings.

Next to Normal in Wolfville

Next to Normal is on stage at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville August 27 – 28 before heading to the Halifax Fringe.

Rachel Bobbitt from Port Williams is in the cast and Lisa St. Clair from Wolfville acts as musical director.

This Pulitzer Prize and Tony award-winning musical features music by Tom Kitt and lyrics by Brian Yorkey.

Next to Normal shines a compassion­ate and healing light on mental illness. In the words of its two creators, Kitt and Yorkey, it is a musical about “trying to find ways to heal each other and ourselves and to make sense of the mad mix of pain, joy, love, anger, longing, hope and grief that is in each of our lives.”

Tickets are on sale at the Box of Delights Book Shop for $15/20.

A few Odd Jobs

Odd Jobs is the current play at CentreStag­e Theatre in Kentville.

A soft-spoken and tender drama by Frank Moher, the play is about day-to-day struggles and their impact on three lives.

The cast includes Diana Bishop, Kevin Pearle and Vanessa Provencal-Crocker.

The play runs Aug. 26-27 and Sept. 2-3 at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Aug. 28.
