It was a rough match-up all around for the West Kings Wolverines as they lost 51-0 to the Northeast Kings Titans.

Several players were injured as a result of the game, said West Kings coach Aaron Evans.

“We don’t know yet if everyone is OK,” Evans said following the Sept. 18 game in Canning. “There’s at least one at the hospital, one might be on the way. Rough day.”

The score wasn’t indicative of the quality of the team, he added.

“This is a rebuilding year for us, it’s a very young team, mostly Grade 10 and Grade 9, with a few returners but not many,” Evans said.

“We’re just going to keep moving the way we’re moving, doing what we’ve been doing and practicing like we’ve been practicing.”

All of the scoring occurred in the first half of the game, with NKEC concentrating on its running game in the second. Head coach Reg Ogilvie said that was deliberate.

“We tried not to run the score up,” he said. “I’ve been on the other end of that and you try not to do it. It’s hard because these are high school kids and they want to score. But West Kings played really well and they’re a good team.”

For the Titans, it was a turn around from the first game of the year, when NKEC lost to Central Kings. Ogilvie said the team “went back to fundamental football – simple, basic blocking and tackling and the kids responded really well. They bounced back. They had a rough game last week and we’re looking forward to next week.”

NKEC and CK will meet up again for a rematch of the season opener, this time in Canning, on Sept. 25 at 4:30 p.m. Central Kings is 2-0 on the season after defeating

Windsor.

Central Kings shouldn’t expect a cakewalk, though.

“They’re going to see a whole different team. They better strap it on,” Ogilvie said. Avon View 6-0 in
