Historical site to get millions
Kejimkujik National Park gets help from federal government
Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site is getting an almost $4-million boost from the federal government.
West Nova MP Colin Fraser and South-Shore – St. Margaret’s MP Bernadette Jordan announced the funding for various infrastructure projects geared towards visitors Sept. 14.
“The government is committed to preserving our national parks, providing more opportunities for Canadians to get outdoors to experience and learn about our environment,” Fraser said. “Through investments like this, we are protecting and preserving our treasured heritage places, while supporting local economies and contributing to the growth of the tourism sector.”
According to a press release, the projects will include upgrades to existing trails and 4.5 kilometres of new trail, creating a networked, multi-use trail system. A new underground water and wastewater system will also be installed in the campground.
“Through these investments, our government is protecting and restoring Canada’s natural and cultural heritage while ensuring the quality and reliability of the visitor facilities at Kejimkujik for years to come,” Jordan said. “Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site is a treasure which I encourage all Canadians to visit and experience.”
These projects will enable more Canadians, including youth and newcomers, to learn about the environment, Canada’s history, and to access and experience nature, she said.
