Continuing the momentum
Middleton Skating Club ramps up for CanSkate
The Middleton Skating Club is ramping up for another successful year of CanSkate.
The nationally certified, dynamic learn-to-skate program focuses on fun, participation and basic skills development. It’s open to boys and girls ages four (as of Dec. 31, 2016) and older.
Through group lessons from the coach and practice direction from a program assistant, skaters learn fundamental skating skills and movements in a fun environment, earning badges as they progress. Last season’s enrolment was at an all-time high and the club hopes to continue this momentum for the 2016-2017 season.
The season runs for 15 to 20 weeks (allotting for snow days), from mid-October to mid-March on Fridays from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. at the Middleton and District Arena on Gates Avenue. The club offers low rates and boasts no fundraising. Registration costs $145 per child and $135 for each additional child per family.
Registration takes place at Home Hardware in Middleton on Sept. 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Oct. 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. Registration is also available online through the club’s Facebook page at MiddletonCanSkate.
Funding assistance
Funding assistance may be available to registrants through the provincial KidSport program and Canadian Tire Jumpstart program. Middleton Recreation Department (902-825-6611) or Susan Connell (902-825-5330) at Middleton Elementary School can assist with filling out the appropriate forms.
On-ice program assistants needed
Volunteer helpers are needed to assist on the ice with the CanSkate program on Fridays at 5:30 p.m. (to help with setup) to 6:45 p.m. It’s lots of fun and is great volunteer experience for your resumé. Teens and adults are welcome. Contact the club at middletonskatingclub@gmail. com if you are able to help.
