Local business supports Berwick School music program

-

A local business is showing its support of school music programs.

On Oct. 7, Berwick and District School hosted an assembly to celebrate community and express appreciation to Wilson’s Pharmasave in Berwick for donating $3,500 to the school’s instrumental music program.

The assembly included a performance by the school band and a 300-person camp sing-a-long led by principal Bill Doucet, after which Carolyn Messom and Kim Sweet of Wilson’s Pharmasave presented the donation to student leadership council members.

Instrumental music is part of the curriculum for students in Grades five to eight, so this support will help many students get the most out of music class, Doucet said.

It also complements the work of the school Band Parents Association, which has a strong history of fundraising for items such as band uniforms and band trips.

Doucet says the school community looks forward to a long-standing partnership with Wilson’s Pharmasave.

“They had the idea that they would like to work with the school to provide help in some area,” he said. “The hope is to create an ongoing partnership with the school, where we can work with Wilson’s Pharmasave to help raise funds for other school activities and we help them in turn by hosting some of their community events at the school.”
