The South Berwick Community Centre held its card party on Feb. 28. The prizewinners were first, Carroll Garland; second, Sharon Kilcup; third, Roxie Redden; fourth, Larry Caldwell; 50/50, George Smith and the door prize went to Mary Fraser.

A rally has been planned for Thursday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the Provincial Courthouse in Kentville.

On March 1, Halifax Judge Gregory E. Lenehan acquitted a former Halifax taxi driver of sexually assaulting an unconscious and highly intoxicated woman.

A Halifax Regional Police officer discovered the woman, passed out, severely intoxicated in the backseat of a taxi. The woman’s DNA was found around the taxi driver’s mouth.

Judge Lenehan acquitted him saying, “clearly a drunk can give consent.”

Reaction was swift to Lenehan’s decision. Rallies are also scheduled in Halifax to protest the ruling and prompt an investigation into Judge Lenehan. The judge who will be looking into the complaints is Associate Chief Judge Alan T. Tufts, who is based in Kentville.

The rally is set for 87 Cornwallis St.
