Custody for variety of offences

Roy Allen Williams, 37, of no fixed address, has been sentenced to jail time for various offences, including assault, mischief, failing to comply with his undertakin­g, failing to attend court as directed and failing to comply with his recognizan­ce.

Following a trial, Williams was found guilty on the assault and mischief charges on Feb. 8. He changed his pleas to guilty on the other charges the same day. The matters were adjourned to March 22 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Judge Jean Whalen sentenced Williams to 105 days in custody on the five charges, followed by 12 months of probation. Williams was also fined $500 in victim surcharges.

In relation to the assault charge, the court ordered Williams to provide a DNA sample and imposed a 10-year firearm prohibitio­n.

Williams committed the offences in Pereau on June 4, 2016, in Kentville on June 17 and 27, 2016, and in New Minas on Aug. 5, 2016.

Four more counts of failing to comply with his recognizan­ce and another count of failing to comply with his undertakin­g were dismissed.

Suspended sentence for various offences

Alexander Lawrence Milne, 23, of Kentville, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for committing an assault, uttering a death threat, criminal harassment and possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace, a black Colt airsoft pistol.

Milne changed his pleas to guilty on the four charges on Jan. 25. The matters were adjourned to March 20 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

Judge Jean Whalen handed Milne a suspended sentence with two years of probation and fined him $800 in victim surcharges. The court granted a 10-year firearm prohibitio­n and granted a secondary DNA order in relation to the charges of uttering a threat and criminal harassment.

Milne committed the offences in Cambridge between Jan. 1 and 31, 2016, in Port Williams on June 8, 2016, and on Highway 101 in Greenwich on June 9, 2016.

Two more counts of assault and charges of attempting to choke a woman by grabbing her throat with the intent of enabling himself to commit forcible confinemen­t, unlawful confinemen­t and committing mischief by cutting the brake lines on a woman’s vehicle, were dismissed.

Uttered threat, failed to comply

Brandon Lee Joshua Walsh, 23, of New Minas, has been handed a conditiona­l discharge with probation for uttering a threat to cause bodily harm and for failing to comply with an undertakin­g by failing to abstain from communicat­ing with an individual.

Walsh pleaded guilty to the charges in October and the matters were adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

On March 22, Judge Jean Whalen handed Walsh a conditiona­l discharge with 18 months of probation and fined him a total of $200 in victim surcharges.

Walsh committed the offences in New Minas on May 27, 2016, and in Kings County on Aug. 18, 2016.

Fined for probation offence

Rockey William Reid, 59, of New Minas, has been fined for failing to comply with probation.

Reid was present outside Kentville provincial court on March 21. His defence lawyer, Chris Manning, changed Reid’s plea to guilty on Reid’s behalf. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Reid a total of $260.

Reid committed the offence in Kentville on Aug. 31, 2016.
