‘All in one day they lost it all’
Benefit planned for Waterville family displaced by fire
There’s a community effort underway to help a family of four displaced by a fire in May.
David Arenburg has once again rallied some troops for the sake of helping fellow Annapolis Valley residents bounce back after a house fire.
“All in one day they lost it all,” said Arenburg.
Dave Dexter and Sharon Moors lost the Waterville Mountain Road home they shared with two children on May 18.
“Just the outside shell is standing,” said Arenburg, a family friend.
“The inside is gutted right out… all you can see inside is two-by-four and boards.”
The family is staying with relatives while the insurance process unfolds, but Arenburg said everything inside the home would have to be replaced.
“They did try to wash up some of the clothes and stuff but you can’t get the smell out,” the Blue Mountain resident said.
The proceeds raised at a benefit show and auction slated for June 24 at 7 p.m. in the Waterville Fire Hall will go directly to the family. There will be a 50/50 draw, baked goods, live auction, music, and canteen – all for a free-will offering.
In the meantime, Arenburg has been collecting donations of household items that can still be put to use.
Arenburg regularly hosts benefits for people in need of extra financial support due to unforeseen circumstances, and he’s happy to have some regulars to turn to for support when it’s time to host another fundraiser.
The upcoming benefit will feature performances by Arenburg and Laura Walsh, Connie Munroe, Ernie Whiston and Becky and Andrew Mcdow. He said there’s nothing quite like getting together to help someone through a difficult time.
“It’s the good feeling that you get out of it,” said Arenburg.
“There’s a lot of things you can buy, but you can’t buy that feeling.”
