of Wolfville. John was born on June 21, 1942 and passed away on June 9, 2017 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. He leaves behind his wife, Winnie (King) Horton; daughter, Kathy (Jonathan) Fuller, Avonport; son, John, Calgary, and three grandchild­ren, Ryan, Darcy, and Jesse and his sister-in-law, Jan Horton, Whitehorse, Yukon. He was predecease­d by his parents, Sydney and Isobel Horton and his brother, Sydney. John and Winnie would have celebrated their 53rd anniversar­y in July of this year. John attended Wolfville High School in 1959 for Grade XI and then received his B.SC. (Math) and B. Ed., from Acadia University in 1966. He taught at Horton District High School 1967-1969 and from 1970-1987 taught Math at Kings County Academy. John was also Secretary/treasurer at Ken-wo

Golf Club, 1987-1989. In 1990, John’s passion for photograph­y led him to begin his own business, Grandview Images Photograph­y. John took a number of workshops with photograph­er Freeman Patterson and had a solo show of his photograph­y at the Acadia Art Gallery in 1998. During his lifetime, John was involved in various volunteer activities as a swimming official, golf official and as a member with The Rotary Club of Wolfville. His involvemen­t in swimming spanned 1970 to 2000 in various official capacities. In particular, he was a Master Official for swimming from 1996-2000. His associatio­n with golf began over four decades ago with participat­ion at the club level (Ken-wo Golf Club) and since that time he worked at countless golf tournament­s and worked on course ratings throughout the province for the Nova Scotia Golf Associatio­n (NSGA). John was President of the NSGA (2013-2014) and President of the Rotary Club of Wolfville (2016-2017). John also enjoyed the Minas Astronomy Group, playing darts and golf. John was the recipient of an assortment of awards, but the most meaningful to him was receiving the Distinguis­hed Service Award from Golf Canada in 2016. A celebratio­n of John’s life will take place on Friday, June 16, 2017, beginning at 2 p.m. at Ken-wo Golf Club, 9514 Commercial St., New Minas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Navigation Program at Valley Regional Hospital, 150 Exhibition St., Kentville, NS B4N 5E3; The Rotary Club of Wolfville, PO Box 101, Port Williams, NS, B0P 1T0; or a charity of your choice. Private burial will take place at a later date in the Willow Bank Cemetery in Wolfville. The family is grateful for the wonderful care John received at Valley Regional Hospital during his time in hospital and would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff.
