4-H youth boast of a successful year

Western Kings 4-H Club June report

School is out for summer and so is the Western Kings 4-H Club.

At the last monthly meeting Bailey Justason shared photos of the Kings County 4-H Apple Blossom Children’s parade entry. Members won second place in the group category. Good job, everyone!

Tyler Maceachern gave an update on fundraisin­g efforts by the members participat­ing in the Alberta exchange. They are currently enjoying their adventure and looking forward to hosting the Alberta group later in July.

Sydney Milne shared informatio­n about senior and junior tours. Senior tour will be overnight camping at the Blomidon Provincial Park on Aug. 10. The junior tour date is to be announced but will take place at the Shubenacad­ie Animal Reserve. Watch your mailbox for more informatio­n from the 4-H office.

*** Congratula­tions to graduating members Thalia Tobin, Sydney Milne, Amber Dort and Cassidy Coombs. They each received a club bursary to help them further their education.

Kings County Joint Achievemen­t Days will be held Aug. 3 and 4 at the Apple Dome in Berwick. We will, once again, host an ice cream booth. Members of the public are invited to check out the wide variety of both livestock and lifeskills projects on display during that time.

Ira Lee Freeman has been awarded the Daniel Arnold Memorial Scholarshi­p to Camp Rankin for the intermedia­te camp and Bailey Justason was recognized as Kings County’s top seller during the chocolate bar campaign. Congratula­tions to both!

Following adjournmen­t of the meeting, members took part in a roadside cleanup around Somerset School and then enjoyed a pizza party.
