Bringing a rural voice to the table
Keith Irving says he was delighted to be offered a position on the provincial Treasury and Policy Board.
On June 26, Premier Stephen Mcneil announced the names of the five members of the executive council and a member of the Legislative Assembly that will serve on the Treasury and Policy Board. Irving, the Kings South MLA, is the only non-cabinet minister that was named to serve on this board.
The Treasury and Policy Board specializes in making many policies and financial decisions for Nova Scotia, as well as making the provincial budget, and ensuring the development of the policies are in line with provincial directives. The policies created by the board members help create opportunities for growth in many communities, and improve education, health care and other important services for Nova Scotia, Irving said.
“The appointment of Mr. Irving to the board reflects his competence in public policy development and the hard work and commitment he has shown as a member of the government caucus,” Mcneil said in a press release.
Irving said his previous term in government has prepared him for this opportunity and the decision-making that comes with it.
“I am delighted to be part of the Treasury and Policy Board,” Irving said.
Irving is quite excited to be offered this significant role in the government, see what this new job will be like, and how he grows as a person throughout this experience.
This is not only exciting for Irving, but also for several members of his constituency, he said. Irving says his constituents feel he will provide a rural voice at the table where important financial decisions for Nova Scotia are made.
