Police deal with all types of complaints in a busy week of calls

- Crimes, or informatio­n on crimes, can be reported to the Annapolis RCMP at 825-2000 in Middleton, or 665-4481 in Bridgetown. Informatio­n on crimes can also be reported to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Annapolis District RCMP responded to 112 calls for service from June 10 and 17.

Twenty of those calls were 911-related, two were about abandoned vehicles, two were possible assaults, one assault with a weapon, and there were three break-and-enters, and two criminal harassment­s.

Three calls were about disturbing of the peace, two were about drug offences, one was filed under the Explosives Act, and one concerned failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Police also dealt with frauds, harassing communicat­ions, impaired driving, mental health issues, thefts, missing people, production of marijuana, robbery, stalking, suspicious people and vehicles, traffic collisions, and uttering threats.

Following are a few of the calls for service:

-- July 10 at 8:30 a.m. at Lawrenceto­wn. Police were called to a motor vehicle collision at the Annapolis Valley Exhibition grounds. A vehicle hauling a trailer backed up and struck another vehicle that was parked on the exhibition grounds. There were no injuries and vehicle informatio­n and driver informatio­n was exchange between the parties.

-- July 10 at 11:48 a.m. at Wilmot. Police received a report of a motor vehicle collision at the intersecti­on of Old Mill Road and Highway 1. There was minimal damage to the vehicles and the drivers exchanged informatio­n.

-- July 10 at 3:17 p.m. at Clementsva­le. Police responded to a break-and-enter into a vacant residence. The residence had been vacant for some time and had been broken into on three previous occasions. Numerous items were stolen. All have been placed on the Canadian Police Informatio­n Centre data base. Police are investigat­ing.

-- July 11 at 11:59 a.m. at Waldec. Police received an anonymous complaint identifyin­g an address in Waldec that was growing marijuana. Police went the location and attempted to speak with the owner but no one was at home. RCMP located five small marijuana plants near the suspect property. Police have seized the plants and if the rightful owner wishes to have them back they should contact police with their Health Canada informatio­n.

-- July 11 at 12 p.m. at Hampton. Police received a complaint of mischief where a vehicle had been doing burnouts in a gravel pit on Hampton Mountain Road. Police were able to obtain a plate number. Police will be contacting the registered owner. The driver will be asked to stay away from that property.

-- July 11 at 2:04 p.m. at Middleton. Police received a complaint of mischief where the complainan­t reported that the back window of their car was broken while on Commercial Street. It doesn’t appear that anything was taken and that the unknown suspect fled due to the noise when the window was broken. The incident is under investigat­ion.

-- July 11 at 4:35 p.m. at Granville Ferry. Police received a complaint of fraud where the complainan­t received a voicemail message from somebody identifyin­g themselves as being from the Canadian Revenue Agency. This scam has been going on for some time and the culprits will make threats of pending arrest and a lawsuit if you don’t pay them money. The caller was advised it was a scam and to not call the numbers back.

-- July 12 at 11:11 a.m. at Middleton. Police received a complaint of a theft of gas from a Middleton service station. The complainan­t reported a four-door white Volkswagen with two occupants obtained gas without paying for it. They left heading east towards Kingston on Highway 101.

-- July 12 at 2:57 p.m. at Wilmot. A two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 and Dodge Road was reported. One vehicle was stopped in traffic waiting to turn left onto Dodge Road when their car was rear-ended. There was damage to both vehicles. There were no apparent injuries. One of the drivers was issued a ticket for following too closely.

-- July 12 at 5:30 p.m. at Hillsburn. Police received an anonymous complaint of dangerous driving on Shore Road West. The caller reported a vehicle pulled into a driveway and then peeled out at a fast rate of speed. It was an older red van. Police were unable to locate the vehicle although they had been provided with suspects. Police will investigat­e.

-- July 13 at 12:27 a.m. at Milford. Police received a complaint of mischief where the caller reported that there was a person breaking windows at the complainan­t’s property that he rents out. Statements were taken from the complainan­t and a 30-year-old woman was charged.

-- July 13 at 12:40 a.m. at Hillsburn. Police received a complaint of a motor vehicle crash. The caller reported a crash outside her house. Police went to the scene and spoke with the driver who was not injured but said he may have fallen asleep at the wheel. There was damage to the vehicle and it had to be towed. No charges are pending.

-- July 13 at 7:29 a.m. at Torbrook. Police received a complaint of theft of a wood splitter that occurred overnight. The splitter is heavy and could only have been moved with a vehicle. It is identified as a 27-ton yellow Champion wood splitter.

-- July 13 at 8:16 a.m. at Clementspo­rt. Police received a complaint of a hit-and-run that occurred on Old Post Road. The caller reported sitting in their parked vehicle when an unknown vehicle sideswiped them and continued on without stopping. An unknown male was driving the suspect vehicle. There is no informatio­n on the suspect vehicle.

-- July 13 at 2:28 p.m. at Middleton. Police received a request to destroy flares. The complainan­t went to the Middleton detachment with a number of flares for destructio­n. They have been seized and will later be destroyed by the Explosives Disposal Unit.

-- July 13 at 8:36 p.m. at Paradise. Police charged a 26-year-old male with driving while suspended and with speeding. The accused will appear in court in September to answer to both the charges.

-- July 14 at 9:17 a.m. at Moschelle. Police have charged a 26-year-old female with speeding on Highway 201. If found guilty she will pay a fine of $237.50. Police issued another 10 tickets for speeding violations as well as 10 other motor vehicle infraction­s throughout the county during the week.

-- July 14 at 7:39 p.m. at Cornwallis Park. Police received a complaint of a theft of a bicycle. The caller reported that his son’s bike was stolen from the bike rack at the YMCA. RCMP attended the area and obtained statements. Later that night the complainan­t contacted police to advise that they now had the bike back. The complainan­t provided the identity of the person alleged to have stolen the bike. Charges are pending.

-- July 14 at 9:51 p.m. at Nictaux. Police conducted a checkstop on Highway 201. Twenty-five vehicles were stopped and there were no infraction­s. Five other checkstops were conducted throughout the week in Annapolis County.

-- July 15 at 12:04 a.m. at Granville Ferry. Police were called to a car-deer crash. There was minor damage to the truck. Police attended and DNR was notified to pick up the dead deer.

-- July 15 at 4:59 p.m. at Maitland Bridge. Police received a call of a missing person who had been floating in an inner tube. They had overshot the exit point in the river. The person was located a short time after the RCMP arrived. The local fire and EHS had been activated but were called off by police.

-- July 15 at 6:26 p.m. at Cornwallis. Police were called to a report of a break-and-enter. Police learned that an unknown male had entered a residence at Cornwallis Park while the occupants were out of the house. When the complainan­t returned the man was inside the residence and fled. It’s unknown who the person was. The homeowner may have startled the person before they were able to take anything.
