A fundraising event will be held at Forrester’s Hall in Clementsvale to raise funds for the family of a young girl who has passed away.

The event will be held Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at the hall for the family of Sia Vanwyck, the seven-yearold who died from injuries sustained in a farm accident.

It is being organized by the Clementsvale District Recreation Commission and will feature live entertainment and a silent auction of baked goods and donated items.

Commission member John Tooker said the event is meant to bring the community together to help the family, who are from Maine, with many costs following the tragic event.

“There have been many people wanting to support the family in any way they can,” said Tooker.

“This event, along with financial contributions, will see all proceeds go to the family.”

The event is free admission by donation. Donation boxes will be set up by the entrance.

Terry Gilbert, a resident of the town of Digby, has been fundraising in Digby as well through several locations that have agreed to collect donations for the family.

Locations include the Digby town hall and Digby Recreation Commission, both affiliated with Gilbert’s close friend and Deputy Mayor Jean Brittain, as well as Marshall’s Gifts and Souvenirs, through owner and manager Sharon Marshall.

“Many people now know about this tragic accident that happened in our community and have spoken about wanting to help,” said Gilbert.

“There really are no words – it was a terrible tragedy.”

Donations at these locations will be accepted as they come and as people donate.

Tooker is glad to see the community come together under these sad circumstances.

“This is what we are here for: to support the community and it’s families in any way we can,” he said.

Donations can also be mailed to Jean Brittain at the following address: PO Box 579, Digby NS, BOV 1A0.
