Wear family’s front lawn turning heads on Highway 1 at Upper Clements
Things are ‘frightfully’ busy for the Wear family in Upper Clements.
Adam and Candice Wear have been at it since last Halloween was over, making preparations for this year’s scary event.
Three years ago, the couple thought it would be fun to transform their front yard into a frightening event for the young and old and thrill-seekers alike.
The Wear’s have always been fascinated with attending many other haunted house type attractions themselves.
It all started years ago when a young 10-year-old Adam entertained his friends each year, setting up theatrical stomachchurning, hair-raising, bonechilling haunted houses in his parents’ basement.
When asked why they do it, the couple responded, “To entertain the community and ourselves, it’s a lot of fun.”
During the past two years they have gotten bigger and better, with lots more scares and frights to offer those who dare to attend. It couldn’t be done without donations from attendees, Adam’s deep pockets, and his active imagination.
They operate with the countless hours and costs contributed by themselves, friends, and family. To go even bigger and better next year they have decided that guests may be asked for a small admission fee this year. Proceeds go towards next year’s costs of lumber, makeup, and costumes for better spooks and scares.
Most things throughout the haunt, gravestones, tombs, coffins, and fences are home made. Their focus is on atmosphere and detail.
The haunt is recommended for those eight years and older.
This year’s event will take place Oct. 27 and 28 from 7 to 10 p.m. at 3151 Highway 1 at Upper Clements. Watch out for werewolves.
