Ax­e­women, Ax­e­men col­lect soc­cer wins head­ing into Thanks­giv­ing

The Aca­dia Ax­e­women used two se­cond-half goals to top the Saint Mary’s Huskies 3-0 Sun­day af­ter­noon in AUS women’s soc­cer ac­tion in Hal­i­fax. The win was the last game be­fore the Thanks­giv­ing break.

Striker Jenna Boudreau scored the even­tual game win­ner in the 23rd minute. Mid­fielder Alexan­dra Scovil opened the se­cond half scor­ing in the 57th minute.

The Ax­e­women added their third goal in the 75th minute on a nee­dle thread­ing pass from Holly Buck­ler, which found its way through the Huskies box to the foot of Jenna How­ell, who tapped in her se­cond goal of the sea­son for a 3-0 lead.

Aca­dia keeper Sarah Charnock grabbed the win with a save and im­proved her record to 4-1-1 on the year.

Ashely Blank picked up the loss and made 13 saves for the Huskies.

In the fol­low­ing men’s game, the Ax­e­men scored twice within the first 20 min­utes en route to a 3-1-win against the men’s Huskies.

Tyler Con­nolly opened the Aca­dia scor­ing, pounc­ing on a save from Saint Mary’s goalie Chris­tian Oxner in the fifth minute.

Con­nolly set up the Ax­e­men’s se­cond goal at the 20th minute on a give and go with Cooper Coats, who scored his sixth goal of the year.

A Saint Mary’s own goal off a shot from Coats put Aca­dia up 3-0 in the 37th minute.

Darien Rolle replied for the Huskies with his se­cond goal of the year in the 68th minute.

Aca­dia out­shot SMU 7-6 in the con­test and held an 8-3 ad­van­tage in cor­ner kicks and a 4-3 save mar­gin.

Aca­dia keeper Nic Jef­feries im­proved to 4-2-1 on the sea­son.

Aca­dia trav­els to St. FX Oct. 14 for a 5:15 p.m. match against the 5-1-1 St. FX X-men.
