Alcohol, vandalism frequent calls for RCMP throughout the summer

Kings District RCMP were kept hopping in recent weeks.

Early in September, there were a number of liquor-related incidents in Wolfville.

At 11:12 a.m. on Sept. 3, a call came in about vandalism in the Royal Bank lobby in Wolfville. Another patron called at 8:19 p.m. to report vomit remained on the bank machines. Police did contact a property representa­tive.

Vandals damage vehicle

On Sept. 3, a resident of Ogilvie on the Bay of Fundy reported damage to a vehicle overnight.

The body of the car and a window were damaged. The woman who called said the vehicle was her only means of transport.

A police cruiser was flagged down on Commercial Street in Berwick on Aug. 3 to report a man stealing from a vehicle. The individual was arrested. Some items were located and a charge of theft under $5,000 was laid.

A number of vehicles have been gone through in Coldbrook, Sheffield Mills and Centrevill­e. Const. Kelli Gaudet warns drivers to lock the doors of vehicles and report anything suspicious.

Break-in targets job trailer

On Aug. 31, an overnight breakin to a job trailer was reported in Coldbrook. Approximat­ely $3,500 worth of tools were taken.

There were 20 break and enters reported. A home in Waterville was also broken into, with thieves taking electronic­s and tobacco.

Impaired charges were up

A traffic stop on Highway 1 late in July near Berwick turned up numerous hydromorph­one pills. A 42-year-old Greenwood man was charged with possession.

A 38-year-old Greenwich man was charged with impaired driving at 10:53 p.m. on Aug. 4 near a winery in Grand Pré.

An inebriated man was found asleep in a vehicle in a parking lot. He received a seven-day suspension on Aug. 6.

On Aug. 6 at 4:22 a.m., a female driver was halted at the same traffic stop in Windermere. The North Kentville driver had blood alcohol levels of 130 and 140 milligrams per 100 millilitre­s of blood, well above the legal limit.

A 35-year-old driver in Greenwood was stopped on Aug. 7 and police determined his had high blood alcohol levels. In addition, his license was expired.

There were 37 impaired driving reports altogether and drivers in North Kentville and Aylesford were stopped.

Targeting vehicle thefts

A 2013 Yamaha motorcycle was reported stolen from South Alton on July 24. Several days later, numerous stolen items were located on a property in Billtown. Two men were arrested. One was a 21-yearold Auburn male and the other a 40-year-old Billtown man.

The Billtown resident is facing four charges of theft under $5,000 and unlawful possession of methamphet­amine. The Auburn man was charged with break and enter and breach of conditions. Police discovered multiple stolen dirt bikes and stolen property.

A stolen 2016 dirt bike was located at 8:33 a.m. in South Berwick on July 30.

Over 65 collisions were reported

A 55-year-old driver was trapped after a single-vehicle collision July 28 near Lake George. He suffered serious, but non-life threatenin­g injuries.

There was a truck/pedestrian collision on Aug. 3 on Highway 358 and Aldershot Road in North Kentville. The victim was a 21-year-old male and his injuries were not life threatenin­g.

There was a witness to the collision and an investigat­ion was launched. On Aug. 27, a 26-yearold man was arrested for the hit and run.

A vehicle collided with a motorcycle on Grand Pré Road on Aug. 7. The motorcycli­st was transporte­d to hospital with non-life threatenin­g injuries.

A total of 65 motor vehicle collisions took place during the month of August.

Man with no place to go

On July 30, a man was reported to police in Kingston at 9:47 p.m. out of concern for his wellbeing. He had no place to go. Police helped to connect him with Open Arms.

Calls for service

Some of the other calls to Kings District RCMP included 40 assaults, plus three assaults with a weapon and seven sexual assaults.

There were 49 mental health complaints and 18 fraud complaints. There were 32 911 calls and 11 family relations calls came in.

A total of 1,070 files were opened during the month of August.

Upcoming community policing events

On Oct. 6, at the Kingston Superstore on Main Street from 2–6 p.m. fingerprin­t/id kits and colouring pages for children will be available.

Community Shred-it day has been set for Oct. 13 at the Kingston RCMP detachment on Maple Street. It will run from 2–4 p.m.

Identity theft is the number one growing crime in North America. Papers including personal informatio­n should be shredded before recycling.
