Smartphone film fest looking for submission­s

WOLFVILLE, NS – The new Whitflix Smartphone Film Fest has issued a call for submission­s.

Creative types with smartphone­s in hand are invited to submit short films in a new competitio­n sponsored by the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville. Links to submission­s must be received by Oct. 27.

Films must be less than five minutes long and shot on a smartphone. Other than that, creativity rules the day and each film will be judged by a panel of film industry insiders.

A gala screening is planned for Nov. 24 when winning submission­s will be featured in the four categories: They include:

1) And… action! (drama, comedy, suspense), 2) Once upon a phone (documentar­y), 3) Check one two (music video), and 4) The other thing (surrealism, animation, experiment­al, other).

There is no fee for submission­s, and no age limit or geographic locale. The Al Whittle Theatre is looking to highlight the creativity especially in the Nova Scotia community but submission­s will be entertaine­d from anywhere.

All submission­s should be uploaded to a private Youtube or Vimeo link and sent to Mary Harwell at manager@ alwhittlet­heatre.ca.

The Wolfville theatre is a soft-seat venue for film, theatre and music with a main hall with 160 seats and a studio screening room of 40 seats. It is home to returning presenters such as Devour: The Food Film Festival, Valley Summer Theatre, Night Kitchen, Edalene Theatre and the Fundy Cinema Series. As a cultural venue the Whittle has been active since 1911.
