Pugwash wins senior boys’ basketball tournament at CK

The Central Kings High School senior boys’ basketball team hosted its annual Gator Tip Off tournament last weekend, which drew teams from across the province.

Competitor­s included West Kings, Horton JV, Millwood High, Forest Heights, Pugwash High and the host Gators.

Play started Nov. 24, with the Gators losing a close one against their cross-county rivals West Kings by a 74-67 score. The Gators held a 32-20 half time lead but could not hold off West Kings second half onslaught. Lance Keddy led the Gator attack with 25 points.

Game two saw Forest Heights defeat the Horton JV boys 74-51.

The Gators suffered another tough loss in game three, losing to Millwood High by a 90-77 score. Hayden Shepard led the Gator scoring with 20 points and Nathan Parnell added 16 points.

In other games, Pugwash defeated Forest Heights 91-53 and Horton JV by an 81-46 score en route to a trip to the gold medal match. Millwood defeated West Kings by an 85-73 score, also securing a berth in the final.

These results set the Gators up in the fifth place game against Hoton, where they lost by an 82-49 score. Alex Parnell led the Gators this game with 22 points.

In the third place game, Forest Heights defeated West Kings 74-62.

The tournament’s championsh­ip game saw Pugwash tipping off versus Millwood High. Pugwash took control of the game early and cruised to a 91-36 victory.

The Gators’ next game is Nov. 30, when they travel to Digby to play Digby Regional High in an conference match up.
