Blain Henshaw in concert at Clementsport Legion

-

Dartmouth singer, songwriter, and author Blain Henhaw presents Words and Music, an afternoon concert, at the Clementsport Legion Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.

In September, Henshaw was inducted into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame in recognition of his talents as a songwriter.

“It’s a great honour to be in the hall of fame,” he said. “Two of my boyhood idols, Wilf Carter and Hank, Snow – both Nova Scotians – were the inaugural members, and both were songwriters.”

Henshaw has written music since a young age and has composed more than 100 songs. His third CD of original music was released last February.

He’s also an author and journalist. His latest book, Rescue At Moose River: Birthplace of on-the-spot Reporting, was published by Pottersfield Press in October. It is the story of the 1936 cave-in at the Moose River Gold Mine that trapped three men underground for ten days. Halifax broadcaster J. Frank Willis made history when he pioneered on-the-spot live reporting of the event to a world audience of 100 million people.

Rescue is Henshaw’s second book. Last spring, Pottersfield also published All Hands Lost (the Sinking of the Nova Scotia gypsum freighter Novadoc). It is the true story of the tragic loss of 24 people, 13 of them Nova Scotians, when the vessel sailed from Deep Brook into a raging nor’easter in the Bay of Fundy in March 1947.

He has written songs about both of those stories and will perform them in the Dec.10 concert. His CDS, as well as both books, will be available for sale. Tickets for the show are $10 at the door.
