West Kings’ Mckay wins tournament MVP in Clary Laing Christmas Classic
West Kings Wolverines head coach John Wilson is pleased with the discipline he’s seeing from his team this season.
“The boys have really absorbed a lot of the information that we’re giving them and they’re really applying it,” he said.
The Wolverines hosted the Clary Laing Christmas Classic basketball tournament Dec. 1416. Eight teams participated: West Kings, Forest Heights, Cobequid Educational Centre JV, Horton JV, Middleton, Northeast Kings, Annapolis West Education Centre and the Sommet Cougars.
Wilson, who coached highlevel basketball in Ontario, commended his players for putting the hard work in to be able to use what they learn in practice in high-pressure games.
“I was impressed with the amount of skill that was displayed by the boys here.”
The Wolverines closed the weekend with an even split of two wins, two losses for a fourth-place Middleton player Jordan Cloutier attempts to block a shot by his opponent from the Sommet Cougars. finish in the tournament won by
the Cobequid Educational Centre.
Wolverines player Nathan Mckay, a six-foot-three guard in Grade 12, was named tournament MVP.
“Nathan has been training with me on the side. His skill level
really has exploded,” said Wilson, noting that Mckay has recorded 56 points in a single game before.
“I would say he’s the most dominant player in the Valley right now.”
