Stranded woman finds warm home in Bridgetown on Christmas Day
It was a cold Christmas Day, and even colder for one woman who was trying to get from Truro to Yarmouth and got stranded in Bridgetown in the early evening. See how she was rescued.
It was one of many calls the Annapolis District RCMP between Christmas and New Year. Others included mailbox bashing, lots of accidents, and a theft from the NSLC.
Following are highlights from the week:

-- Dec. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Bridgetown - Police received a call from a resident who said a woman had come to his back door looking for a place to stay for the night. She was turned away but the home owner called RCMP who found the woman and took her to the home of a local minister who, as it turned out, knew the 56-yearold woman who was trying to get from Truro to Yarmouth on Christmas Day.
-- Dec. 27 at 10:39 a.m. at Clarence - Police received a complaint of mischief where a mailbox and satellite dish were damaged overnight. Police attended and were advised that there were a number of other homes in that same area that had received damage to their mailboxes as well. Police investigated and found that six additional residences had been victims of damage overnight. Neighbourhood inquiries were conducted and the file is still under investigation.
-- Dec. 28 at 12:46 p.m. at Upper Clements - Police were called to a motor vehicle accident on Highway 1. A vehicle lost control in snowy conditions and went off the road. Neither the driver nor passenger were injured. There was damage to the vehicle.
-- Dec. 28 at 2:49 p.m. at Paradise - Police received a complaint of mischief where the community mailboxes on Messenger Road had been damaged. The vandalism is under investigation.
-- Dec. 29 at 8:33 p.m. at Nictaux - Police conducted a checkpoint looking for various highway and criminal code infractions. Four other checkpoints were conducted throughout the county during the week.
-- Dec. 30 at 2:45 p.m. at Carleton Corner - Police were called when a car hit a deer. There was damage to the vehicle but no injuries reported. The deer was found dead in the ditch. The Department of Natural Resources was advised.
-- Dec. 31 at 3:30 p.m. at Middleton - Police received a complaint of theft from the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission. Police went to the scene and were able to get a description of the suspect and are attempting to locate the suspect.
-- Jan. 1 at 1:33 a.m. at Wilmot - Police were called to a motor vehicle crash. Police spoke with the complainant who came across a dark-colour half-ton truck in the ditch. The driver said the vehicle had slipped off the road.
-- Jan. 1 at 12:15 p.m. at Hampton Mountain Road - Police received a complaint of a missing person. Information that a 31-year-old man wearing a t-shirt, pants, but no shoes was walking toward Hampton Mountain Road. The person was located and examined by paramedics and returned to their home. Police spoke to the person about the dangers of leaving home without the proper clothing.
-- Jan. 1 at 9:01 p.m. at Paradise - Police received a 911 call about a car crash. It was a head-on collision with minor injuries. The injured person was taken to hospital for further evaluation. Road conditions were poor at the time. Both vehicles had to be towed.
-- Dec. 30 at 10:34 a.m. at Lequille - Police received a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision. A vehicle was attempting to avoid a rear-end crash with a slowmoving vehicle ahead of them, veered into the passing lane, and did not see a tractor trailer that was behind him in his blind spot. There was a slight collision with no damage to the truck and minimal damage to the other vehicle. There were no injuries.
