Theft from grocery store

A Kentville man must serve a period of probation for stealing from a local grocery store.

Brian Edward O’neil, 53, entered a guilty plea to one count of theft under $5,000. He was sentenced in Kentville provincial court Jan. 23.

O’neil must complete six months of probation, pay $25 in restitutio­n to Jason’s Independen­t Grocer and settle $26 in fines.

The incident occurred March 28, 2017.

Possessing a weapon

A Kentville man was recently sentenced for possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Jason Martin Collier entered a guilty plea to the charge during an appearance in Kentville provincial court Jan. 24.

Collier must adhere to the conditions of a suspended sentence order for nine months. He originally faced additional charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats from an incident on March 3, 2017, but those counts were dismissed with the Crown offering no evidence.

Possession charges dismissed

Two Wolfville men have been cleared of possession charges.

Matt James Dillon, 24, and William Murray Sutherland, 24, appeared in Kentville provincial court Jan. 24.

The duo was accused of possessing cannabis for the purpose of traffickin­g in Wolfville on April 28, 2017, but the charge was dismissed with the Crown offering no evidence.
