Causing a disturbanc­e, assault cases before the judge

Conditiona­l sentence for multiple offences

Tyler Janz Fairrae, 22, of Wolfville, has been handed a conditiona­l sentence with daily curfew on eight charges.

The charges include willfully attempting to obstruct, pervert or defeat the course of justice in a judicial proceeding by telling an individual by telephone to recant her statement given to police; two counts of uttering a threat to damage an individual’s automobile, stealing a debit card, two counts of defrauding an individual of a sum of money not exceeding $5,000, failing to comply with his recognizan­ce by having a cellphone and failing to comply with his recognizan­ce by texting, messaging on Facebook and messaging on Snapchat an individual he was ordered to have no contact with.

Fairrae pleaded guilty or changed his pleas to guilty on seven of the charges on Nov. 21, 2017. The matters were adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. Fairrae pleaded guilty to the eighth charge on Dec. 13, 2017.

On Feb. 14, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Fairrae on the eight counts. Fairrae was handed a 15-month conditiona­l sentence order with daily curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the first six months, followed by daily curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the remaining nine months.

Fairrae committed the offences in Crowes Mills on Oct. 17, 2016; and in Wolfville between Jan. 6 and May 12, 2017, on Feb. 14, 2017, on Feb. 15, 2017, between May 19 and June 2, 2017, and between June 6 and Sept. 20, 2017.

Several other charges, including two counts of failing to comply with his recognizan­ce, assault, using a weapon – a broom stick – in committing an assault, two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm, possessing a stolen debit card, unlawful confinemen­t, fraud, four counts of failing to comply with probation and criminal harassment were dismissed or withdrawn on Feb. 14.

Conditiona­l discharge for assault causing bodily harm

Sarah Evelyn Laprade, 27, of Mackay Section, has been handed a conditiona­l discharge with probation for committing an assault causing bodily harm.

Laprade pleaded guilty to the charge in November and the matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

On Feb. 15, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Laprade a conditiona­l discharge with 18 months of probation and fined her $100 in victim surcharges.

Laprade committed the offence in Kentville on April 22, 2017. A charge of uttering a threat to cause bodily harm or death was dismissed on Feb. 15.

Conditiona­l discharge for assault, resisting arrest

Craig Cordeau, 39, of Kingston, has been handed a conditiona­l discharge with probation for committing an assault and resisting two RCMP constables engaged in the execution of their duty arresting Cordeau by fighting.

Cordeau pleaded guilty to the assault charge on Dec. 8, 2017. The matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. On Jan. 8, Cordeau changed his plea to guilty on the resisting arrest charge. The matters were adjourned to Feb. 12 for sentencing.

On Feb. 12, Judge Alan Tufts handed Cordeau a conditiona­l discharge with one year of probation on the two charges. On the resisting arrest charge, Cordeau was also ordered to either complete 10 hours of community service work or make a $150 charitable donation.

Cordeau committed the offences in Falmouth on Nov. 12, 2017. Another count of assault was dismissed on Feb. 12.

Conditiona­l discharge for assault

Logan Freeman, 21, of Kingston, has been handed a conditiona­l discharge with probation for committing an assault.

Freeman changed his plea to guilty on Dec. 7 and the matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing. On Feb. 12, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Freeman a conditiona­l discharge with 12 months of probation, including a $500 charitable donation payable through the court to the Canadian Cancer Society for the purpose of cancer research. Freeman was also fined $100 in victim surcharges.

Freeman committed the offence in Aylesford on May 6, 2017.

Conditiona­l discharge for assault

Gabrielle Peach, 20, of Greenwood, has been handed a conditiona­l discharge with probation for committing an assault.

Peach pleaded guilty to the charge on Feb. 15. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Peach a conditiona­l discharge with six months of probation.

Peach committed the offence in Greenwood on Dec. 25, 2017.
