NSCC business administration students partnering with Rotary Valley business project
A group of 2nd year Business Administration Students in the Professional Selling Class at NSCC Kingstec Campus in Kentville are gaining real life industry experience and supporting a good cause at the same time. In partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Kentville, Wolfville and Middleton, they are helping the Rotary Volunteers to contact local businesses to take part in the annual “faces” publication. The students will be reviewing the existing data base of Valley Faces clients, identifying new opportunities and hitting the streets to meet with potential customers.
The Valley Faces of Business publication, and it’s associated on line directory, provides a unique compliment to newspaper, radio and other advertising of products and services. According to Kentville Rotary Incoming President Rod Mcmahon, the book is really an opportunity to introduce the people behind the counter, in the fields, or in the shop – the people that make Valley businesses special. “We use the Valley Faces of Business to support all sorts of community projects, to partner with other Rotary Clubs and with other community organizations – it is our key fundraiser”. The opportunity to partner with NSCC, something that has happened now for several years, is very helpful to the volunteers in terms of creating enthusiasm and momentum for the annual sales campaign.
Speaking on behalf of the Business Administration students, Instructor Di Best explains that the partnership with Rotary is a great opportunity for combining experiential learning with community involvement. “Our students get a chance to go out into the field and make real contacts and sales, while supporting initiatives they can point to in their home communities and in the Valley generally.” The student Valley Faces of Business sales campaign will take place between now and early April, and the publication will be produced in the Fall, for distribution to about 32,000 homes and businesses between Middleton and Windsor.
