Winter Fun Day a success at Milford House

- BY WENDY RICHARD

Despite the lack of snow and thinning or no ice on the lakes, Milford House and the County of Annapolis Winter Activity Team hosted a free Family Winter Fun Day at Milford House on March 3.

Folks who attended were met with more than just the warmth of a bustling fire and homemade treats.

In previous years the County of Annapolis has donated snowshoes and kick sleds with volunteer facilitator-led instructions for the winter activities. Without the snow, this year’s activities included a guided tour and hike through some of the resort’s four hiking trails.

It was a free and friendly way to get out and take in some fresh, brisk air that may have been just what the doctor ordered on that cool March afternoon.

After the trek through the woodlands, the afternoon came to a close with a hot cup of refreshment and a chat with Charlie or Val, longtime employees and managers who are always enthused to share the details of the property and stories of yesteryear.

The legendary Milford House, the longest running family-oriented wilderness resort, despite the lack of snow and rather wet, rainy fall and winter season, has remained a solid destination for the outdoor enthusiast during the 2017-2018 winter months.

Geier Lake, just beyond the main lodge, and Boot lake, which winds around to the right along the cabin road, together the two lakes encompass the 28 cabins, three of which are winterized. The driveways and main roads leading to those winter cabins are maintained for snow removal during the off season.

A thank you for those who organized and created signage, flyer design, social media coverage, and to the always bountiful support from the County of Annapolis as well as staff and friends of Milford House who came out for the day.

Be sure to check out all Milford House has to offer year round. From hiking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, snowshoeing, fine dining, relaxation, recovery, rest, peace and serenity. A great family destination for the young and old.
