Feedback coming in on two-way bike lane

-

Here’s what some Facebook users had to say about the beautification and traffic calming project proposal that pitches a two-way bike lane for Webster Street:

-“I admire the thought behind this ... but the practical application of this will not work. Why not wait for the new bridge to be built and springboard off that new fixture with a trail from there onto River Street then back on the trail?” – Frank Peel

-“A bike trail near River Street makes so much more sense. Having the town beautified at the cost of our local merchants is a very high expense. Beautification is still possible on Webster with two lanes.” – Lisa Schofield

-“What happens to the older population, who have lived here all their lives, when they need to go downtown to the bank, doctor, get their hair done, shop for a new outfit and so on?

Are you going to tell them they have to walk up from the municipal parking lot because cyclists need a direct route to a trail?” – Bonnie Fader

-“I have to agree with most of the comments. The idea behind this is great but the location is not so great.

Taking away parking spaces would not be a good move as it is difficult now to find a spot to be able to visit any number of businesses in this area.” – Karen Atwood

-“Maybe it would be best to go back to the drawing board and offer several options for the merchants and bikers to look at. I am pretty sure an agreeable option can be designed.” – Betty Kalt

-“I think a better option for downtown development would be to turn Aberdeen from Webster to Main into a pedestrian mall and encourage seasonal activities.” – Mark Roberts
