Big year for sea cadets

Nationally, locally major milestones being celebrated

-

The 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets marks a major milestone for the organization nationally, but locally it’s also a big year.

It’s the 75th anniversary of the formation of the 26 Cornwallis Corps.

Corp’s officers and staff have busy making plans for several special events to celebrate these historic milestones.

In the meantime, cadets have been busy, participating in their regular training, as well as extra activities that have included underwater hockey, attending the two-day Seamanship Interdivisional Competition held at 14 Wing Greenwood in February, where they finished first in a number of events, and a two-day trip to Halifax during March break to tour the HMCS Ville de Quebec and the RCN Submarine Simulator.

Cadets are now looking forward to an upcoming drill competition, an introduction to ROVS (remotely operated vehicles), and several sessions with the sail and power boats based in Annapolis Royal, and for many, the opportunity to attend -ummer training in their particular area of interest. This exciting program is open to any youth between the age of 12 and 18, and we welcome them to attend a tour during any training night. The groups meet every Wednesday night (6:30 to 9 p.m.) at Champlain Hall, Cornwallis Park.
